Grid Installation Manager

As our Installation Manager, you will deliver the installation of Grid Structures (where products are stored for robotic retrieval) within an automated customer fulfillment centre being constructed for our partner Lotte.
You will manage installation contractors, ensure safe working practices and high quality installation (ensuring correct methods and physically inspecting work). Your technical and engineering background will enable you to ensure installation is to the required standards and act as the first line of fault finding to ensure any onsite engineering issues are resolved using agreed methods or escalated for resolution by specialists. You will be working on new and innovative solutions and technology across our growing number of sites.
The role is based on our project site 5 days a week.
Accountability
Manage the installation of allocated grid structures in automated facilities, including Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs), Distribution Centres (DCs), and warehouses, ensuring adherence to contractor costs, installation methods, quality standards, safety requirements, and schedule.
Support planning of installation work and improvements to processes and methods as needed.
Conduct physical quality checks of structural grid installations, including working at heights of up to approximately 8 metres.
Provide status reports on installation progress, issues, risks, and mitigation strategies.
Work with a Lead or Principal Installation Manager to oversee contractors delivering major work packages, such as grid/MHE installations, typically over a 6-14 month period on a construction site.
Coach and support less experienced team members.
Assist in managing construction/installation sites, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Provide planning input when required to ensure effective installation phases, considering buildability and access.
Apply knowledge of structural installation practices in South Korea, including familiarity with local regulations.
Guide and direct installation contractors on Ocado's methods and best practices.
Define Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) by applying industry best practices.
Contribute to Ocado Health and Safety Risk Assessments, ensuring proper updates and agreements.
Support Supply Chain teams in selecting installation contractors with appropriate conditions, if required.
Identify and mitigate engineering risks, while documenting challenges and anticipating potential issues.
Assist in the planning and scheduling of multiple work packages and contractors/personnel on-site.
Identify engineering problems, communicate technical details, and escalate as necessary to reach successful resolutions, seeking input from relevant product engineering teams.
Build strong relationships and collaborate with contractors, peers, and other project team members on-site.
Contribute to the continuous development of best practices in delivery methodology.
Ensure lessons learned during the project are raised, documented, and logged for future improvement.
Skills And Experience
Relevant experience in the mechanical installation of structural steel, pallet racking, or automation systems is expected.
An understanding of managing high-risk activities such as working at height, confined spaces, or lifting operations is necessary.
Previous experience in project management and engineering/technical delivery is typically required.
Knowledge of national and local legislation related to construction/engineering compliance and safety is required.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean is essential.
Familiarity with the responsibilities involved in planning, conducting, or overseeing complex lifting operations is important.
Contract management knowledge is a key asset.
Qualifications
An engineering background Degree level, or equivalent experience, is required.
Holding a national or local Health, Safety and Environment competency permitting access to construction sites is essential.
