In South Korea, Ocado is partnering with Lotte Shopping to develop Lotte’s online business in the country, via the deployment of the Ocado Smart Platform. Our partnership plans for the development of a nationwide network of fulfilment centres, the first of which is in Busan and is scheduled to go live in late 2025.
What you will do:
Reporting to the Head of People Partnering based in the UK, you will:
- Provide pragmatic and professional expertise and advice on topics across the employee lifecycle, e.g. performance and conduct, family policies, diversity awareness, absence, disciplinary, grievance and appeal meetings; provide performance management expertise and assistance to ensure a high quality workforce who enhance brand reputation
- Interpret and advise on relevant current employment legislation
- Work with the recruitment team to ensure all recruitment needs for the client group are briefed and managed effectively
- Ensure that local onboarding practices provide a great experience to all new hires
- Develop practical people practices with Line Managers which address business objectives, eg recruitment, retention, performance, development, engagement.
- Work closely with key customers in a partnership capacity; coach and assist line managers to understand and effectively implement People policies, procedures and best practices
- Work with global COEs to develop and implement initiatives which support the growth and operation of the South Korea business, e.g. L&D to deliver and support learning and development activities relevant to the client base, People Operations to ensure the effective delivery of transactional People activities, Reward on ensuring competitive compensation and benefits structures.
- Participate in project groups on initiatives across both People team and the client base
- Utilise employee data and trend analysis to educate and work in partnership with line managers on people issues, eg absence management, engagement, attrition / retention.
- In conjunction with the Health and Safety stream and line management, ensure that there are safe working systems, procedures and policies in place at all in-country locations.
- Deliver, lead and proactively review training requirements for people managers, including workshops.
- Utilise Workday and/ or other systems to maintain employee data.
What we look for:
- Strong working knowledge of South Korean employment law.
- Proven experience in a generalist People team role in an expanding business, with HQ outside South Korea
- Experience of working in white collar and blue collar environments
- Experience of working in matrixed operating models
- Ability to communicate effectively at all employee levels (including upwards)
- Relationship management and people management skills
- Problem solving and analytical capability
- Confident decision maker with the ability to work independently
- Strong organisation and delegation skills with the ability to multitask
- Proven ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and make best use of limited and remote resources;
- Effective networking, mediation and negotiation skills; able to listen to and persuade others
- Able to influence effectively and build constructive working relationships across the business
- Experience of conflict resolution
- Good presentation skills
- PC Literate and knowledge of People systems
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to other parts of South Korea
- Flexible approach to working hours to support 24/7 business operation, there is the requirement to work flexible hours including some early starts and late shifts. Also to work collaboratively with People colleagues based in the UK
