Roles & Responsibilities

As a Technical Writer you’ll be responsible for the delivery of all written content relating to the development and release of certain products or features for Ocado Smart Platform (OSP).

Working in the Logistics and Delivery team, you’ll work on providing documentation for our Last Mile solutions, taking a high-level view of the full end-to-end narrative, as well as working with individual teams to produce documentation and UI text for their applications.

When working with teams, you’ll be involved in the development of new features and functionality from conception through to release.
This involves working on operational apps, business-facing web apps, as well as APIs.

All the features we develop must have approved text and user documentation in order for them to be released, so this role is essential in helping us continuously deploy new functionality. For technical features, such as APIs and data feeds, this includes ensuring consistent naming of data fields and attributes, as well as full reference material.

Aside from working directly with development teams, you’ll be a member of a wider Technical Communications unit covering different aspects of our platform.

As a Technical Writer you will:

  • Produce clear, easy-to-read, and consistent documentation and supporting content, for end-user systems, apps, APIs and data feeds
  • Write concise, usable UI text in accordance with the UI style guide, and ensure consistent attribute naming for technical features.
  • Become a subject matter expert for the applications and features you support.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Engineers, and other Technical Writers.
  • Understand the needs of Training Managers responsible for training clients in the use of our software, to ensure help content supports and complements their efforts.
  • Produce consistent screenshots and other visualisations or media when required, such as videos.

We’re looking for someone who has strong technical writing experience and is a content enthusiast - who knows the impact well-written content can have.

Supporting content is a key deliverable within our solutions, so you’ll be someone who is keen to really understand how things work, so you can answer the questions our audiences may ask - before they ask them.

You may be asked to perform tasks as required by management deemed as a reasonable request. This job description is a summary of the typical functions of the role, not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of possible role responsibilities, tasks and duties and is subject to review. The responsibilities, tasks and duties of the job holder might differ from those outlined in the job description and other duties, as assigned, might form part of the job.
