Senior Electronics Engineer

We have an exciting new opportunity for a driven individual to join our Prototype Services team as a Senior Electronics Engineer. This is a permanent vacancy based in our Welwyn Garden City Development Centre. (Hybrid Working)

This role forms part of the team that underpins Ocado Technology's technical focus, being a key contributor to the team. In this role, you will be a go-to person in your team, with great expertise, problem-solving and knowledge sharing. Attitude is more important than detailed experience.

The successful applicant will have the chance to get their hands on our cutting edge robots and other areas that require electronic support.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design, build and verify test boxes to be used fulfilment teams to assist in fault finding.
  • Supporting Electronic Engineers with various tasks such as design, testing, building and verification.
  • Making technical notes and reports for verification testing and improvement suggestions.
  • Tracking, stock taking and ordering spare parts. (Components etc.)
  • Reworking existing PCBs for upgrades using hot air and soldering irons down to 0402 size components.
  • Fault finding, Testing and repairing PCBs at component level.
  • General managing and organising skills in a laboratory environment.
  • Provide technical support to the Electronics Engineering team.
  • Working with senior team members to verify, and validate designs and SOP testing, where applicable.



Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in reading design files and drawings including Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical.
  • Ability to prototype quick circuits using various techniques such as Veroboard or printed circuit boards
  • including SMT and Through Hole components..
  • Experience in fault finding to component level of electronic products
  • Design, build and write software for various test rigs for testing external PCBs and circuits.
  • Knowledge of C language programming and familiarity with STM family.
  • Drawing up detailed drawings, schematics and models using computer design software such as CAD.
  • Circuit and PCB testing and capturing test data.
  • Must be familiar with Active and Passive components handling including ESD awareness.
  • Must be proficient with Standard Lab test equipment. (Oscilloscope, Benchtop Power supply, Signal Generator, Transient Generators, Electronic loads, DMM etc.)
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude and outside-the-box thinking and collaboration.
  • Theoretical and technical knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, CAN.

 

Desirable

  • IPC certification 7711/7721
  • Some exposure to bespoke Test equipment (e.g. ATE (Automatic Test Equipment), ICT (In-Circuit Test), MDA (Manufacturing Defect Analyser), FCT (Functional Test Equipment)
  • Exposure to Time/Cost management (not essential but could be an advantage)
  • Verifying and testing using Climate and EMC chambers.
  • Ability to create innovative electronic designs that add value to existing products or provide a solution to existing problems.
  • Computer design skills and proficiency using circuit design programs such as Eagle or Altium
  • Use software to perform circuit analysis, run simulations.
  • Qualified to HNC or equivalent in electronics engineering or equivalent experience
