Electronics Engineer

We have an exciting new opportunity for a driven individual to join our Prototype Services team as an Electronics Engineer. This is a permanent vacancy based in our Welwyn Garden City Development Centre. (Hybrid Working)

This role forms part of the team that underpins Ocado Technology's technical focus, being a key contributor to the team. In this role, you will be a go-to person in your team, with great expertise, problem-solving and knowledge sharing. Attitude is more important than detailed experience.

The successful applicant will have the chance to get their hands on our cutting edge robots and other areas that require electronic support.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Supporting Electronic Engineers with various tasks such as testing, re-working, building and verification.
  • Building and re-working electrical harnesses.
  • Organising the lab on a day-to-day basis.
  • Set a high standard of workmanship.
  • Tracking, stock taking and ordering spare parts. (Components etc.)
  • Reworking existing PCB’s for upgrades.
  • Fault finding, testing and repairing PCB’s at component level.
  • General managing and organising skills in a laboratory environment.



Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in reading design files and drawings including Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical. 
  • PCB rework including SMT, standard THP and fine pitch work, component placing and solder.
  • Cable working including cutting, stripping, crimping, and solder using a wide range of cables and connectors from simple to high specification assemblies to IPC 7711 & 7721 standards.
  • Soldering standard to IPC610 level 3 or equivalent for working with SMT and through-hole components with package sizes of 0402 and DFN. 
  • Component desoldering and PCB reworking.. 
  • Must be familiar with Active and Passive components handling including ESD awareness.
  • Must be proficient with Standard Lab test equipment. (Oscilloscope, Benchtop Power supply, Signal Generator, DMM etc.)
  • Using electric hand tools.
  • City and Guilds 224 electronic servicing or equivalent qualification.

 

Desirable

  • IPC certification 7711/7721/610
  • Some exposure to bespoke Test equipment (e.g. ATE (Automatic Test Equipment), ICT (In-Circuit Test), MDA (Manufacturing Defect Analyser), FCT (Functional Test Equipment)
  • Exposure to Time/Cost management (not essential but it could be an advantage)
